Begin with the physical layer
We organize the subject around foam, rubber, textiles and joining methods. That keeps the explanation close to what a component actually does: compress, contact, contain or connect. Brand technologies appear as examples, not as a league table.
The central question is practical: how does structure relate to everyday wear? A source may establish a polymer family or a construction method while leaving comfort, durability or personal suitability unresolved. We keep those gaps visible.
A useful explanation tells you what to inspect—and where inspection stops being evidence.
How sources are used
Each deep guide links to relevant manufacturer, material-supplier or standards-organization resources. Manufacturer material explains intended design and product naming. A standards reference explains a testing framework. Neither is presented as an independent comparison of every competing shoe.
We avoid numerical rankings without a shared method and comparable conditions. We also distinguish material-level properties from complete-shoe performance and from the outcomes experienced by a person. Those levels are connected, but they are not interchangeable.
What the images can and cannot show
Photographs provide visual context for texture, stitching and layer placement. They are not microscope images, laboratory samples or proof of a pictured product's composition. Cutaway figures are explicitly labelled illustrations and are not to scale.
Independence and limits
This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the manufacturers mentioned. The supplied pages contain no affiliate links, paid rankings or advertising scripts. Product and technology names belong to their respective owners and are used for identification and explanation.
We do not claim to have laboratory-tested the pictured shoes. Our guides are educational, not medical advice, individualized fitting advice, workplace safety certification or instructions for chemical repairs. For those questions, consult the appropriate qualified professional or the exact product documentation.
Corrections are part of the notebook
If a material description is outdated or a source no longer supports the wording, send the page name, the passage and a primary reference. Specific corrections are more useful than broad claims that one brand is best. We do not promise a response time or publication of every submission.
